Mr. Vernon, Director of Choral Activities at Gulfport High School, is also the Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church of Gulfport. Daniel earned a Bachelor’s degree in Instrumental and Choral Music Education as well as a Masters degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is a native of the Mississippi Gulf Coast where he has been active in Theatre, Musical Theatre, and Opera, directing and performing in productions for the past 25 years. He is an active accompanist, voice instructor and adjudicator for the State of Mississippi as well as the Southeastern United States. Daniel is active ACDA as well as Nafme. He is serving as Repertoire and Standards chair on the State Board of Mississippi for ACDA as well as previously serving as High School Division Secretary for the Mississippi Music Educators Association. He has conducted his choirs across the country as well as internationally. Ensembles under his direction and conducting have performed Chicago, San Antonio, Nashville, Orlando, Hollywood, Carnegie Hall in New York City, as well as abroad in Merida, Salzburg, Vienna, and Prague. Under Mr. Vernon’s Direction as Warren Central High School, his choirs were invited to perform at the Mississippi ACDA Choral Conference in 2013. He has also received the honor of the 2012 Mississippi Young Music Educator of the Year. He and his beautiful wife Mary reside in Orange Grove, MS with their 3 year old daughter Abbie, and 1 year old Samuel.
Jessica C. Dunlap
Jessica is a native of Pensacola, FL, where she was extremely active in the arts community through various ensembles and organizations. She earned a Bachelor’s in Instrumental Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2010.
Mrs. Dunlap has worked in the Gulfport School District for the entirety of her teaching career in several different dynamic roles. She spent 4 years at Pass Road Elementary as a general music and strings teacher, 3 years at Gulfport Central Middle School as a choir director, and is in her second year as the Assistant Director of Choirs at Gulfport High School.
Mrs. Dunlap enjoys directing the beginning Concert Choir, and the intermediate Women’s Choir at Gulfport High School during the school day, and assisting with and accompanying the Gulfport Singers.
A current member of ACDA and NAFME, Jessica is an active accompanist and theater director in the region. She currently resides in Biloxi, MS with her husband John Dunlap, and their three fur children - Heidi, Cooper, and Fudge.
